FedEx Recognized for Delivering Positive Social Impact to Local Communities

FedEx Express Vietnam received AmCham CSR Awards

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, December 7, 2023 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, received the 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Award from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Vietnam for the fifth consecutive year. FedEx was recognized for exceptional commitment to assisting and strengthening communities across Vietnam.

This annual program acknowledges AmCham member companies in Vietnam who have demonstrated a steadfast commitment towards sustainable business practices and making a long-lasting positive impact to society.

“This award recognizes the dedication of our team members who have selflessly volunteered their time to bring healthcare services to under-served communities, support medical professionals, and nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs,” said Ee-Hui Tan, managing director of FedEx Express Vietnam and Cambodia. “At FedEx, we are guided by our mission to connect the world responsibly and resourcefully. We are proud to be able to use our logistics expertise and extensive network to address the social and economic needs of those in need and make a meaningful difference in local communities.”

FedEx Cares, the company’s global community outreach program is focused on driving global entrepreneurship, sustainable logistics and humanitarian relief. Through various programs in 2023, FedEx supported the annual educational program FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge, medical training for eyecare professionals through Orbis’ Flying Eye Hospital project, and delivery of critical healthcare services to rural areas through the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program.

Empowering Vietnamese Youth

FedEx has been actively involved in empowering the younger generation through its collaboration with Junior Achievement (JA). The FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge (ITC) – now in its 17th year – provides students from 10 AMEA markets with the opportunity to learn and explore the practical principles of business and international trade. This year’s competition was held virtually and comprised a series of workshops held from May to June 2023 where more than 400 students from 38 schools took part. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, a student from Vietnam, was part of this year’s winning team for the FedEx/JA ITC Regional Finals.

Training for eyecare professionals to restore vision

In 2023, FedEx continued its commitment to doing good in Vietnam by scaling existing programs and launching new initiatives. The collaboration with Orbis resulted in the first surgical program since 2020 on board the Flying Eye Hospital – a fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on board a plane. FedEx donation of the MD-10 aircraft, which serves as the third generation Flying Eye Hospital, played a crucial role in supporting Orbis’ mission and contributing to the National Blindness Prevention Strategy, which was approved by the Prime Minister of Vietnam in 2016.

Delivering healthcare programs to under-served communities

This year marks the 12th year of the collaboration between FedEx and local non-profit VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) on the ‘FedEx Delivers Heartbeats’ Rural Outreach Clinic program. Supported by local government leaders, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Health, this program provides children living in rural areas with free specialty healthcare and medical treatment for congenital heart defects (CHDs). In 2023, over 41,000 children were screened, uncovering more than 600 children with CHDs.

The collaboration with VCF also extends to the ‘FedEx Brings Smiles to the Hearts’ program, where FedEx employees transform children’s hospital wards into vibrant play areas, creating a positive and uplifting environment for these brave young warriors.

The FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program has impacted the lives of more than 263,000 children all over rural Vietnam and improved the quality of life for families and communities by providing the under-served with proper diagnosis and treatment for their illnesses.
