Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, September 26, 2023 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest transportation companies, has teamed up with local non-profit VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) to revitalize the children’s wards at Ho Chi Minh City’s Children’s Hospital 2 and the Ha Noi Heart Hospital.
Named ‘FedEx Brings Smiles to the Hearts’, this transformative initiative seeks to uplift the spirits of pediatric patients who are undergoing treatment to battle congenital heart defects (CHDs) and other health problems.
27 FedEx volunteers dedicated more than 120 hours to transform designated hospital spaces into vibrant play areas. Improvement works included wall paintings and decorations, aimed at creating a soothing and positive environment for pediatric patients and their families. Volunteers also engaged the patients and their families through games, and distributing goodie bags filled with books and snacks.
“The ‘FedEx Brings Smiles to the Hearts’ initiative underscores our commitment to create positive impact in the communities we serve. Our collaboration with VinaCapital Foundation provides our team members the opportunity to make an impact by giving underprivileged children from rural areas of Vietnam access to quality healthcare services,” said Ee-Hui Tan, managing director, FedEx Express Vietnam and Cambodia. “We hope to create more possibilities for these brave young souls to overcome the challenges of congenital heart conditions so that they can go on to live healthier, and more resilient lives.”
The ‘FedEx Brings Smiles to the Hearts’ initiative is part of the FedEx Delivers Heartbeat Outreach Clinic program, which offers free heart screenings to children in remote areas. In 2023, over 41,000 children were screened, uncovering more than 600 children with CHDs. For the past 12 years, the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program has extended its reach to 810 clinics in 48 provinces across the country. Among the 337,000 children who have undergone free heart check-ups, more than 11,000 children were diagnosed with CHDs with over 9,000 of them requiring heart surgery. The program is supported by local government leaders, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Department of Health.
