U.S. Chamber Names FedEx as Finalist for Corporate Citizenship Award
WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2008 —The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center today named FedEx as a finalist for a Corporate Citizenship Award in the category of International Community Service.
“The International Community Service Award is all about recognizing how global companies can make a positive difference wherever they do business,” said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. “FedEx and the other finalists demonstrate with their actions the value of corporate citizenship around the world.”
FedEx is being recognized for Walk This Way (WTW), a youth-focused pedestrian-safety program in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide. WTW programs provide risk assessments, educational tools, and infrastructure improvements to unsafe roadways and are customized based on each community’s culture and specific needs.
“It comes as no surprise to Safe Kids Worldwide that FedEx has been selected as a finalist for this prestigious award,” said Mitch Stoller, president and chief executive officer of Safe Kids Worldwide. “For the past nine years FedEx’s support has enabled us to educate millions of children and caregivers about pedestrian safety and to create safer pedestrian environments. We know that our organizations’ combined efforts have saved children’s lives around the world.”
The International Community Service Award, now in its 9th year, acknowledges businesses and American chambers of commerce for corporate citizenship programs that contribute to social and civic progress in communities outside of the U.S. The American Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua, Coca-Cola China Ltd., Pfizer Inc. and Procter & Gamble Pakistan are also finalists in this category.
The winner of the International Community Service Award will be selected by a panel of corporate citizenship leaders, including past winners and BCLC’s board of directors. The winner will be announced on November 18 at a celebration dinner at Washington, DC’s National Building Museum. Six hundred business, civic, and government leaders are expected to attend the event.
