In early June, more than 20 California-based FedEx employees, family members and friends logged a total of 11,445 miles in one week – on bicycles. For the third consecutive year, FedEx sponsored and participated in AIDS/LifeCycle, a seven-day, 545-mile bike ride that runs from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
AIDS/LifeCycle is an annual event to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS. This year’s event, with the help of FedEx, raised $11.6 million for HIV/AIDS related services throughout California, which AIDS/LifeCycle reports is a record for an annual AIDS fundraiser.
“FedEx is honored to be a part of an event that raises funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS,” said Steve Seymour, managing director of FedEx Express and member of the FedEx team of riders. “As a company with more than 27,000 team members in the state, we feel it’s our responsibility to better the California community, where so many of our team members and customers live and work.”
A FedEx team of 21 riders, along with 3,000 other participants, cruised the California coast from June 1-7, passing through at least a dozen cities and major towns.
Along the route, FedEx touched various California communities by donating supplies and athletic shoes to local elementary schools. FedEx made these special deliveries to schools in Bradley and Casmalia.
