SOMERSET, N.J. – June 24, 2014 – Twelve drivers representing FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX) operating companies placed among the top finishers at the 2014 New Jersey State Truck Driving Championship in Somerset on June 20-21.
- Jim Senor, a driver for FedEx Freight based in Vineland, won his first state title in the 3-Axle class. Senor also earned the Grand Champion title for achieving the highest score among the winners of all classes.
- Artur Lesniowski, of Arturs Express Corp. domiciled out of the FedEx Ground station in Moonachie, earned his third state title with a win in the Flatbed class this year.
- Bart Masciulli, a driver for FedEx Express based in Mount Laurel, captured his second state title with a win in the Step Van class.
- Cinnaminson-based FedEx Freight driver Jim Erickson finished second in the 5-Axle Sleeper class. Erickson also posted the highest score on the Written Exam portion of the competition.
- South Newark-based FedEx Freight drivers Bart Pachucki and Carlos Chavarriaga took home the second-place trophies in the Straight Truck and Flatbed classes, respectively.
- Aaron Howard, of D. Ash Express, Inc. domiciled out of the FedEx Ground hub in Woodbridge, earned second-place in the 3-Axle class.
- FedEx Freight drivers Tom Bass (Vineland), Lester Beben (South Brunswick) and Joe White (Newark) finished second in the 4-Axle, 5-Axle and Tank Truck classes, respectively.
- Completing the sweep in the Step Van class were Franklin Castillo, of FCF Transport Inc. domiciled out of the FedEx Home Delivery station in Newark, and Jorge Cardoza, a driver for FedEx Freight based in Newark, with their second- and third-place finishes, respectively.
Additionally, Scott Levine, of SDB Package and Delivery Corporation domiciled out of the FedEx Home Delivery station in Princeton, posted the highest score in the Pre-Trip Inspection portion of the competition.
Senor, Lesniowski and Masciulli will go on to compete at the American Trucking Associations’ 2014 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC), known as the “Super Bowl of Safety,” Aug. 12-16 in Pittsburgh. In addition, each state winner will be recognized by FedEx as part of its safe driving initiative, The Chairman’s Challenge.

The New Jersey State Truck Driving Championship is an opportunity for professional truck drivers to demonstrate their driving skills and safety expertise. The event includes a difficult driving-skills challenge, pre-trip inspection and written examination covering vehicle operation and knowledge of federal safety regulations.
In 2013, 132 driving professionals from 46 states representing FedEx Freight, FedEx Ground, FedEx Express and FedEx SupplyChain qualified to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships by winning their respective state’s competition and driving accident-free for at least one year. Three FedEx drivers captured National Champion titles in the Flatbed, 3-Axle and Step Van classes. Nine other FedEx drivers earned top-three finishes in their respective vehicle classes.
