Six Students to Represent Vietnam in the FedEx/Junior Achievement Asia-Pacific International Trade Challenge

HA NOI, July 9, 2016 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, and Junior Achievement today announced the winners of the FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge in Vietnam (FedEx/JA ITC).

Nguyen Hoang Hung and Nguyen Le Thuy Duong of Hanoi- Amsterdam High School, Vu Hai Long and Quach Mai Ngan of Ta Quang Buu High School, and Ngo Minh Thu and Tran Nhat Lan of Wellspring International Bilingual School were selected as the winners of Vietnam International Trade Challenge. They will represent Vietnam in the Asia-Pacific ITC finals in Hong Kong from August 7 to 11, 2016. They emerged winners out of a total of 305 students who joined the program in Vietnam, of which ten teams of two were shortlisted to advance to the local finals.

The ITC program is designed to introduce the fundamentals of global trade to aspiring youth entrepreneurs, enabling them to have a solid foundation on which to build future careers in business.

The finalist teams presented their plans and went through a Q&A session before a judging panel composed of FedEx and Junior Achievement representatives who evaluated them on their market-entry strategies detailing marketing, promotion, pricing, inventory management of a product made from recycled plastic meant for distribution in Brazil. The judges selected the three Vietnam teams who will compete against 21 teams from seven other countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and The Philippines.

“As SMEs and e-Commerce have evolved to become critical contributing factors to Vietnam’s economic growth, a program like the International Trade Challenge is also becoming increasingly relevant to aspiring young entrepreneurs here,” said Thang Dao, senior manager of Indochina and country manager of FedEx Vietnam. “We hope that by gaining insight on global trade and learning the fundamentals of business, the participants will be inspired to unleash their untapped potential as future business leaders.”

Team Kindred Spirits – Created compartments for plastic suitcases that help maximize convenience for travelers by making it easier to store bath accessories and personal hygiene items. This product is aimed at addressing the needs of tourists in the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, at a more competitive price compared to other products in the market.

Team P*Wrecker – Devised a service system for rental bicycles that are made mostly from synthetic resin which are manufactured using recycling materials. The bicycle also has integrated GPS and CCTV to provide users with directional guidance and added safety.

Team Jinhae – Designed elastic shoes for men and women ages 18 to 40, and targeted at middle income professionals in Brazil. The shoes use innovative reflexology insoles that create a massaging effect to help alleviate back pain among users.
