Netherlands benefits from FedEx commitment to safe driving

Oude Meer, the Netherlands - November 29, 2005 - FedEx Express (NYSE: FDX) announced today the continued execution of its global wireless strategy across Europe and the Middle East , and with the deployment of 10,000 additional FedEx PowerPads globally.

People throughout the Netherlands will be able to experience different driving conditions using the high-tech road safety simulator, as FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced its support for national road safety organisation, 3VO.

Preventing motor vehicle accidents has enormous benefits for the community. In 2004 an average of 17 people were killed every week in traffic accidents across the Netherlands , and another 323 were admitted to hospital. The impact of a motor vehicle accident is felt long after the actual crash. The economy suffers and, most obviously, the human costs of death or permanent injury can impact on family and friends for a long time.

Patrick Stienlet, Managing Director Benelux Operations said: “Driving safely is part of FedEx’s DNA. For our couriers, who drive approximately 3.2 million kilometres on Dutch roads every year, safe driving is a core element of their training. In addition, all our 354 employees are out on the roads every day travelling to and from work; everyone benefits from increased road safety – our employees, every person in the Netherlands and the Dutch economy.”

FedEx is delighted to raise the profile of road safety by funding the annual operation of 3VO’s Mobile Exhibition with the driving simulator. FedEx’s support means that citizens will be able to visit the exhibition and use the simulator free of charge. This simulator reaches approximately 100,000 people every year and is used at public events, commercial meetings, shows and congresses to allow the public to engage with road safety in a challenging yet fun way.

Joop Goos, Managing Director of 3VO said: “We are delighted that a company like FedEx is so keen to promote traffic safety. Thanks to their support we can continue to do our utmost to improve traffic safety in the Netherlands . Safe and courteous drivers are always more than welcome in any traffic situation, especially in built-up areas where there are more pedestrians and cyclists on the roads.
