KUALA LUMPUR, July 13, 2017–Three student teams demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence with their winning business ideas and eloquent presentations at the Malaysia FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (FedEx/JA ITC) 2017.

The three winning teams are[1]:

  • Agrivolution Co., Lai Zi Cheng and Tan Michelle from SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong 1, introduced the Nepal Irrigation Revolution Project aiming to rehabilitate and improve the irrigation system in Nepal’s agriculture sector, taking into consideration its chief and fundamental role in subsistence farming.
  • Chaos & Order, Aryan Kabra and Syed Shahan from Global Indian International School, developed the Semios Alpha Drone - a self-automated drone comes with sensors that will be able to monitor the farmer’s field for pests and take the required action to spray Semios aerosol over the fields of crops to help reduce the labour.
  • FerTech Private Limited, Lim Zhe Ye and Chang Siew Ching from SMJK Catholic, developed the FTComposter, a high quality polymer bin to produce organic compost through the composition of agriculture and household organic wastes, involving four main components: organic matter/wastes, moisture, oxygen and bacteria that is cost effective and convenient.

“FedEx values and supports entrepreneurship, and we are proud to support a new generation of entrepreneurs through our International Trade Challenge program, together with Junior Achievement,” said Ramesh Kumar Singam, managing director, FedEx Express Malaysia. “Young people’s understanding of business and trade in a globalized world is fundamental to continued economic success in Malaysia. This year’s teams demonstrated incredible entrepreneurial acumen, and we are excited to see how the three winning teams do at the regional finals.”

This year, ten teams were shortlisted to present their strategies on an agricultural product or service in Nepal at the Malaysia Finals. They were required to present their products’ unique value propositions, pricing strategies, marketing plans, market entry options, and sales and distribution channels. The top three winning teams were chosen for the thoroughness of their market research and market entry plans, as well as their creativity and entrepreneurial skills in entering the new markets.

The six students will represent Malaysia in a competition at the Regional Finals in Singapore on August 20-24, 2017 with 54 counterparts from nine other Asia Pacific markets, namely Australia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

This year’s regional finals will feature an exciting change from the previous competition format. To further promote cross-border collaboration, finalists will not be competing in the same groups but will instead go through a random shuffle to form a mixed team of two team members from different markets.

Now in its tenth year, the FedEx/JA ITC has inspired more than 5,000 students in Malaysia to understand entrepreneurship from a global perspective.
