The Valentine’s Day season plays a central role in Ecuador’s foreign trade landscape, accounting for a significant share of the country’s flower exports to key international markets.

Federal Express Corporation, the world’s largest express transportation company, expects to transport more than 2.2 million pounds of flowers from Ecuador and Colombia during February in connection with the Valentine’s Day season, which requires precise coordination to meet defined timelines amid increased demand.

This projection is based on the 2025 peak flower seasons following the first anniversary of the FedEx Quito–Miami flight, which facilitated the efficient management of seasonal spikes in international trade, with more than one million pounds exported by FedEx from Ecuador to the United States. During this period, 239 metric tons were exported during the Valentine’s Day season and 226 metric tons during Mother’s Day.

In Ecuador, the Valentine’s Day season drives a measurable increase in flower export volumes, with year-over-year growth of four percent in 2025 compared with the same period in 2024. Key destinations include major logistics hubs in the United States and Europe, particularly Miami and Amsterdam, which serve as gateways for distribution to global markets[1].

“Valentine’s Day marks one of the most significant periods of the year for FedEx operations in Ecuador and reaffirms our commitment to providing reliable solutions for the country’s floriculture sector. Our FedEx International Priority DirectDistribution® (IPD) solutions enables deliveries of fresh-cut flowers exported to the United States within 48 to 72 hours, from Ecuador. The export process begins immediately after flowers are cut at Ecuadorian farms, with recipients receiving their bouquets in fewer than three days at 99 percent of delivery addresses across the United States” said Eduardo Garrido, Senior Manager of Ramp and Customs Operations for FedEx in Colombia and Ecuador.

The Valentine’s Day season marks a peak in demand for flower exports, where efficiency across the logistics chain and advances in air transportation are essential to ensuring products reach international markets on time while preserving their quality and freshness. This dynamic has a direct impact on Ecuador’s economy by strengthening producers and exporters, supporting rural employment, and reinforcing the country’s position in global trade during this holiday and throughout the year, backed by a diverse offering that keeps the industry active 365 days a year.
