Federal Express Corporation, the world’s largest express transportation company, expects to transport over 2.2 million pounds of flowers from Colombia and Ecuador during February for the Valentine’s Day season, a period that demands precise coordination to meet strict delivery timelines amid increased demand. This projection is supported by sustained growth in the second half of 2025, when the company recorded a 17% year-over-year increase in the volume of flower exports from the region.

According to figures from Analdex[1], exports of fresh flowers and buds from Colombia reached US$2.061 billion in 2025, consolidating their position as the country’s second most important non-mining and energy product. Likewise, according to Corficolombiana, nearly 95%[2] of Colombia’s flower production is destined for international markets, positioning the country as the world’s second-largest flower exporter and the leading supplier to the United States.

“Valentine’s Day marks one of the most significant moments of the year for flower exports and for FedEx operations in Colombia and Ecuador. Our solutions help ensure that hundreds of thousands of flowers arrive at their destination in perfect condition, supporting the growth of the floriculture industry. For this Valentine’s Day season, we have developed a robust operational plan, with 13 additional flights—10 from Bogotá and three from Quito—complementing our regular frequencies from Colombia and Ecuador to the United States,” said Eduardo Garrido, Senior Manager of Ramp Operations and Customs for FedEx in Colombia and Ecuador.

FedEx has continued to strengthen its operations for transporting flowers and other perishable products from Colombia, supported by a nonstop air cargo route that directly connects the country to Miami International Airport, one of the company’s primary logistics hubs and home to its largest cold-chain infrastructure worldwide. Through specialized solutions such as FedEx International Priority DirectDistribution® (IPD), the company enables delivery times of 48 to 72 hours from Bogotá and Medellín, with a logistics process that begins immediately after the flowers are harvested at Colombian farms, ensuring they arrive fresh at their destinations across North America.

The Valentine’s Day season represents a peak in demand for flower exports, where efficiency across the logistics chain and advances in air transportation are critical to ensuring products reach international markets on time while maintaining their quality and freshness. This dynamic has a direct impact on the Colombian economy by strengthening producers and exporters, supporting rural employment, and sustaining the country’s positioning in global trade during this holiday and throughout the year, with a diverse offering that keeps the industry active 365 days a year.
