Later Call-in Cut-off Times Improve the FedEx Customer Experience for Penang Businesses

KUALA LUMPUR, December 2, 2013 – FedEx Express customers in Penang can now enjoy greater flexibility and convenience when preparing their outbound shipments to Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. FedEx Express, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), today announced an extension of the pickup call-in cut-off time for outbound shipments from selected locations in Penang to as late as 6pm[1] on weekdays.

This service improvement is applicable to FedEx International Priority® (IP) and FedEx International Economy® (IE) shipments from Penang to destinations in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Penang is an export dependent state[2] with more than RM$2 billion in capital investment for 70 proposed projects from January to August 2013, representing the third largest investment in the country[3]. The expansion of the Batu Kawan Industrial Park and the completion of the second Penang Bridge in 2013[4] are key developments, which are expected to propel industrial growth in Penang with new high-value manufacturing and services.

The FedEx call-in cut-off time extension in Penang will equip businesses in the area to strategically leverage their resources and will provide them with a stronger competitive edge as they work to transform in response to rapid developments in the state.

“At FedEx, we believe that everyone benefits from better connectivity, and we design our broad portfolio of solutions to help customers, from start-ups to international corporations, connect to world markets,” said Ramesh Kumar Singam, managing director of FedEx Express Malaysia and Brunei. “The extension of our call-in cut-off times backed by the FedEx comprehensive express network, innovative technology and robust range of shipping solutions and services, is an integrated approach to providing flexible, convenient and reliable offerings to serve the evolving needs of businesses in Penang and across Malaysia.”

He added, “As a trade facilitator and a powerhouse in the Malaysian marketplace, FedEx is accelerating its momentum and constantly improving its services to support businesses in Penang as the company continues to provide an outstanding experience for our customers in Malaysia.”

In 2013, FedEx introduced a number of innovative solutions including cold shipping, temperature controlled packaging for the healthcare industry, and FedEx Quick Form, an easy-to-master online tool that allows customers to generate a shipping label in just a few clicks. In 2012, FedEx launched an Airbus A300 freighter into Malaysia, offering an additional 31 percent cargo capacity for businesses shipping into and out of Malaysia.
