Heart to Heart, FedEx Join to Aid Recovery Efforts in China Quake Zone

OLATHE, Kan., January 15, 2009 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), is donating US$25,000 to assist with the organization’s relief and recovery efforts in Sichuan Province, PRC, site of a massive earthquake that claimed more than 60,000 lives in May 2008.

“We are privileged to have such a rich, longstanding partnership with the Sichuan government,” said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s chief operating officer. “We were honored by their request to assist in helping people affected by the earthquake and we look forward to working closer with these officials in rebuilding communities and lives.”

FedEx and Heart to Heart provided the first private airlift of relief supplies to China after the earthquake, leaving the U.S. on May 23 with 75 tons of medical aid, tents, tarps and blankets.

Along with FedEx, Heart to Heart has worked to improve health and emergency-response capacity in Sichuan for more than a decade and was perfectly positioned to assist in relief efforts after the quake struck the region.

In all, FedEx has donated more than $300,000 in cash and $900,000 of in-kind shipping to support the Sichuan province relief efforts.

“When it comes to corporate social responsibility, our goal at FedEx is to leverage our strengths to contribute to the communities where we live and work,” said David L. Cunningham, Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “By working with Heart to Heart, we are able to combine our talents to help the victims of the earthquake in Sichuan Province . We realize that the relief efforts are a long-term project, and we are committed to supporting the rebuilding of affected communities.”

Beyond providing humanitarian aid, Heart to Heart assisted with direct medical services and helped restore health to remote villages. Since the quake, the organization has worked with emergency officials at the 120 Command to accelerate the provincial capacity to respond to complex disasters.

Earlier this month, Dr. DeGraffenreid participated in a conference sponsored by the 120 Command that focused on disaster readiness and expanding cooperation between various emergency-response services. Sichuan officials say they see organizations like Heart to Heart International as strategic partners in preparing for future crises.

As a testament to this Sino-American partnership, Heart to Heart was recently honored in Chengdu for its efforts to improve the quality of life in Sichuan . Dr. Gary Morsch, Heart to Heart’s president and founder, received the Jinding Award on behalf of the organization.
