The world’s top business and government leaders will be meeting in Manila, Philippines this week for the 2015 APEC CEO Summit. Under this year’s theme of “Creating the Future; Better, Stronger, Together,” David L. Cunningham, Chief Operating Officer, FedEx Express told the group the newly completed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is “an absolutely essential step” to creating a future focused on economic growth and harnessing the power of global e-commerce. “TPP provides the best framework to expand opportunities for trade and investment among the 12 TPP countries,” he said. “It will be good for customers and good for business.”
At a related APEC panel session on small and medium businesses (SMEs), Karen Reddington, president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express, encouraged an audience of Asia Pacific SMEs to support lowering trade barriers, explaining, “Nothing does more to speed up the movement of goods other than regulatory reform. When barriers to trade are removed or lowered, the costs of doing global business decrease.”
FedEx is a Platinum Sponsor of the APEC CEO Summit, which coincides with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, where world leaders will also be speaking, including President Xi Jinping of China, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, and U.S. President Barack Obama.
