MEMPHIS, Tennessee, September 24, 2025 – FedEx Freight, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), swept the top two spots and won the team title at the 2025 TMCSuperTech competition held in Raleigh, North Carolina, Sept. 14-16.
Leading the way, Matt Sloan, a senior technician based in Jacksonville, Florida, was named the 2025 Grand Champion. Sloan, a 16-year FedEx Freight team member, competed in his 12th national technician competition this year and also earned wins in three skills station competitions: Electronic Engine Diagnostics, Electrical Circuits, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
Kelby Bentley, a senior technician based in Greensboro, North Carolina, finished second. Bentley, the 2019 SuperTech Grand Champion and an 11-year FedEx Freight team member, has competed in six national competitions. He also won skills stations in RP Manual, Coolants & DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid), and Starting & Charging.
Senior Technicians Philip Barlow (Jacksonville) and John Blanchet (Hermiston, Oregon) were selected by their fellow FedEx Freight competitors to represent the group in the team competition and earned top honors as well. Barlow, the 2022 and 2023 SuperTech Medium/Light Duty Champion, finished eighth overall this year, while Blanchet placed ninth.
Also finishing in the top 10 from FedEx Freight were Jamie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) in sixth and Nick Bryant (Portland, Maine) in seventh.
A total of 94 technicians competed in this year’s championships. Team FedEx Freight competitors won 15 of the 27 skills competitions. Also claiming skills station wins were:
- Blanchet – Roll-up Doors
- Nick Brown (Billings, Montana) – Trailer Electrical Corrosion and Fifth Wheel
- Bryant – Trailer Lighting, Trailer Alignment, and Emissions & Aftertreatment
- Mitch Buelow (Fremont, Indiana) – Tire & Wheel
- Smith – Liftgates
- Cory Westfall (Effingham, Illinois) – Central Tire Inflation
