FedEx Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Frederick W. Smith testified this week before the U.S. House on the importance of intermodal transportation, putting it in the context of FedEx in today’s cost- and time-driven economy.

Speaking before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Panel on 21st Century Freight Transportation, Fred Smith emphasized that for intermodality to work, infrastructure needs to enable squeezing the most out of transportation options in a sustainable manner. Airports need to optimize with projects like NextGen air traffic modernization, road networks need to be optimized and chokepoints need to be avoided at airports and sea ports.

Throughout the hearing, members of the Committee recognized Fred Smith, FedEx and its team members for 40 years of great contributions.

Representatives from Norfolk Southern Corporation, Carolina Ports Authority, Werner Enterprises and AFL-CIO also testified.
