FedEx Volunteers Help Install a Traffic Safety Corner at School in Dong Nai Province

HO CHI MINH CITY, January 09, 2012 - FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation/Safe Kids Vietnam today set up a Traffic Safety Corner at Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary School in Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province. The Traffic Safety Corner is part of an on-going project supported by FedEx to educate children about road safety awareness and create a sustainable and safe pedestrian environment for students, teachers and parents.

The Traffic Safety Corner, which was painted and installed by FedEx volunteers, consists of fully functioning sets of traffic lights, a zebra crossing, traffic signs and directional arrows. It aims to give children the opportunity to learn and practice safe pedestrian habits before its real-life application on Vietnam’s busy roads.

FedEx also gave pedestrian safety booklets and teaching tools to all the students and teachers at Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary School and organized special road safety activities for the students to help develop their understanding of good road safety practices.

“We are delighted to assist in this way with improving the road safety situation for youngsters in Vietnam. Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary school was chosen for this project as more than 80% of its students walk to school and most of them have to cross the busy National Highway No 1A to get to and from home. In addition, a majority of the students come from poor local families. Thus, we see it as imperative to do something for them as part of our commitment to addressing the social needs of the local communities,” said Nguyen Duy Binh, Senior Country Manager Indochina, head representative of FedEx Vietnam.

In Vietnam, FedEx undertakes its social and community responsibilities by supporting many projects in the field of education and health care, including the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital which is devoted to blindness prevention and treatment; Ben’s Smile charity which offers assistance to Vietnamese children suffering from cancer; and the Safe Kids Walk This Way program to help ensure safety for pupils walking to school.
