4th September, London - Allan Blakeley, an employee of FedEx UK, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), has set out on a 463-mile walk via 15 FedEx stations over 21 days to raise more than £30,000 for learning disability charity Mencap. The charity is close to Allan’s heart as his son Kieran has autistic tendencies and learning disabilities. Starting on Sept. 5, the walk is taking Allan from Newcastle – upon – Tyne to Launceston, requiring on average 22 miles to be covered per day.

Kieran depends on his parents for support and Allan selected Mencap as the beneficiary as the charity supports people with a learning disability of all ages and their families and carers. Allan hopes that his walk will help to not only raise awareness of Mencap and the issues it campaigns for, but build awareness of the charity among FedEx team members by calling at several of their stations and engaging with both employees and customers.

Allan Blakeley, who is director of Supply Chain Services UK for FedEx UK, said, “I want to give something back to a charity which is very close to my heart. As a family we have learned and are still learning to cope with Kieran’s lifelong disability.”

Amy Clarke, a Mencap spokeswoman who has a learning disability, said, “Mencap is delighted that Allan has taken up this amazing challenge. The money he raises will help Mencap to continue to support people with a learning disability. We all wish him good luck on his journey.”

Mencap fights for equal rights, campaigns for greater opportunities and challenges attitudes and prejudice. Through housing, education, employment, leisure and advocacy services, Mencap supports people with a learning disability to live their lives the way they want.

Everyone has the opportunity to join Allan for part of his walk. The distances of the walks range from 1 to 26 miles and will take the supporters onto the next FedEx station. You can register your interest through Allan’s website www.whosallan.com where donations to Mencap can also be made.
