FedEx Strengthens Airport Operations in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, June 29, 2012 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, announced it has expanded its operations facility at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in order to increase its handling capacity for international shipments and meet growing customer demand.

Located in the west part of the airport, the new facility occupies an office and warehouse area of 17,375 square meters, nearly 50% larger than the previous facility. There is also a substantial increase in sorting capacity—the expanded facility can sort up to 9,000 packages per hour, 50% greater than before.

“International trade will continue to be critical to the success of Shanghai’s economy and will enhance the city’s competitiveness in the country,” said Wilson Chung, vice president, International Express, FedEx Express China. “The expansion of our facility at Shanghai Pudong International Airport is part of our long-term investment to support market growth in Shanghai and east China. It also steps up our capability of providing fast and reliable services for our customers and connects them to the FedEx global network.”

The new facility has a total of 32 trucking docks and 17 conveyor belts for loading and unloading individual packages. As one of the busiest FedEx gateway operations in China, it has 68 flights in and out of Shanghai each week. Equipped with a simplified package scanning process and improved wireless communications, the expanded facility decreases the package-handling cycle time, enabling faster, more efficient deliveries for customers.

Last year, FedEx opened a new operation station in Shanghai which is the largest FedEx station in China. In Shanghai, FedEx currently has one international express gateway at the Pudong International Airport, five international express operations stations, one domestic service distribution center and two domestic service operations stations. The establishment of these facilities underlines the company’s strong commitment to servicing the market in east China and extending its strength in terms of network, capacity and capability.
