From our planes to our trucks, our facilities down to our packaging products, FedEx is committed to reducing our ecological footprint by implementing responsible and efficient practices at every level of our daily operations.

In conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2011 Senior Officials Meeting in San Francisco, FedEx will join other leading companies across the Asia-Pacific region in demonstrating our commitment to the environment by showcasing innovative technologies.

Today, Michael Ducker, COO and President, International, FedEx Express, will participate in “Greening the Supply Chain: Energy Efficient Freight Transportation,” a roundtable discussing developments in freight logistics and transport modes that decrease energy costs and carbon footprints. Mr. Ducker will discuss our goal of reducing emissions by 20 percent by 2020 and highlight our successes. This includes:

· adding over 4,000 more fuel-efficient, lower- emitting vehicles to our fleet in June of this year

· replacing aircraft with more efficient models such as the Boeing 757 and 777F to reduce the amount of fuel used

· implementing programs that challenge drivers to learn and adopt new habits to improve their fuel efficiency

· incorporating alternative energies to power our facilities around the globe.

As a result of our efforts, so far we’ve increased vehicle efficiency by 15.1 percent and reduced emissions by 13.5 percent.

As a member of the APEC 2011 USA Host Committee, FedEx will also host the “Innovative Technologies in Sustainable Transportation Exhibition” tonight at the FedEx Oakland Airport hub. Delegates and industry leaders will be given the chance to get up-close and personal with some of the latest in energy efficiency and sustainable transportation technologies, which will serve as a precursor to the policy discussions that will occur throughout the summit.

The Oakland hub helps facilitate domestic and global trade by providing access to the growing Asia-Pacific markets and is a fitting backdrop for the event, as it speaks to both the sustainability and international trade discussions held during APEC. The hub is powered by rooftop solar panels (900 kw) and innovative onsite fuel cells (500kw). At the exhibition, we will feature our 777F aircraft, the most fuel-efficient and largest aircraft in our fleet, and new “EarthSmart®” delivery vehicles, including an all-electric plug-in delivery van which produces zero carbon emissions.

FedEx values the importance of minimizing our environmental impact and encourages other companies and countries to adopt efficient technologies and conservation measures to reduce the amount of energy we use on a daily basis. Our hope is that the discussions at the APEC summit will foster policies around the world that encourage and foster innovative new technologies and solutions to protect the global environment and promote sustainable economic growth.
