SHENZHEN, November 6, 2012- FedEx Express (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, officially opened its fifth operations station for international services in Shenzhen in order to boost its local operations network and meet growing customer demand, following the launch of its 777F flight connecting to the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis, U.S.

Occupying an area of 1,800 square meters in Nanshan District, the new Shenzhen station handles the pickup and delivery of international express shipments for customers in Nanshan District, Xixiang as well as parts of Futian District.

With offices and operations areas, the new station has 58 employees and 34 vehicles. It is equipped with an advanced inbound and outbound shipment sorting system, which can sort up to 2,300 shipments per hour. The opening of the new facility will enhance FedEx international express services in Shenzhen and increase operational efficiency.

“Shenzhen is an important city for FedEx development in China. Nanshan District is the center for Shenzhen’s high-tech industries where there is growing demand for efficient and reliable delivery services,” said Wilson Chung, vice president, international express, FedEx Express China. “The new station will improve our Shenzhen network and strengthen our operational capabilities and flexibility. It will support FedEx business growth in Shenzhen and south China as well as increase our customers’ competitive advantage in the global market place.”

As one of China’s special economic zones, Shenzhen’s foreign trade has grown fast and it has long been a FedEx gateway city for southern China. The value of Shenzhen’s exports and imports was US$346.75 billion in 2010 and US$414.1 billion in 2011, increasing by 28.4% and 19.4% year on year[1]. It has ranked No.1 among China mainland’s cities for total exports for 19 consecutive years[2].

To support Shenzhen’s robust foreign trade, FedEx has been continuously enhancing its operations facilities and networks to support the city’s remarkable volume growth and demand for reliable, fast delivery services. FedEx introduced its second 777 Freighter in China to connect Shenzhen and the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis, U.S. in late 2010, providing greater convenience and capacity to the U.S. and supporting the development of foreign trade in Shenzhen and southern China.

In Shenzhen, FedEx currently has five international express operations stations, one international express gateway at Bao’an Airport, four domestic service operations stations and one domestic service distribution center.
