FedEx Salutes the Legacy of Dr. King

Forty years ago in Memphis , Tennessee , Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and equality. Today, we still vividly remember the words and actions of the man whose legacy has inspired generations.


As a Memphis-based company, FedEx is proud to keep alive the dream of Dr. King through our hiring, training and promotion practices; marketing initiatives, and in the amount of business we do with minority-led firms.


Our commitment to multiculturalism is also evident through our support of the National Civil Rights Museum, the NAACP, the National Council of LaRaza, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Asian and Pacific Islander Scholarship Fund, the National Urban League, Teach for America, the United Negro College Fund, National Hispanic Corporate Achievers, Dress for Success, and many other community outreach programs.

As part of the April 4th week of events honoring the legacy of Dr. King, FedEx will serve as a corporate sponsor of the following programs:


April 2: Keepers of the Dream Awards program

April 3: Memphis Urban League State of Black America Luncheon

April 3: Corporate Panel: “Corporate Citizenry – How Can the Business Community Carry Out the Dream of Dr. King.”

Participants will include Larry Brown , Sr. VP and Chief HR Officer at FedEx Express, and executives from Uniworld Group, Wal-Mart, Anheuser Busch, and Black Enterprise magazine. A special video featuring some of our FedEx senior officers reflecting on the impact of Dr. King’s work on their lives will be shown during the program.

April 3: National Civil Rights Museum

of Storytelling”

featuring Myrlie Evers-Williams, Mayor David Dinkins, Rev. Benjamin Hooks, and others.

April 4: April 4th Foundation Awards Banquet. Speakers will be Harry Belafonte and U.S. Rep. John Lewis


Additionally, FedEx print ads honoring the legacy of Dr. King will appear on Friday, April 4, in The New York Times, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Memphis Tri-State Defender and Memphis Silver Star newspapers. The ad will also appear in an upcoming issue of Memphis Magazine.
