SHANGHAI, Sept. 23, 2008 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, today joined hands with Safe Kids Worldwide, a global non-profit organization, Shanghai Education Bureau and Shanghai Traffic Police, in hosting the “My Favorite Crossing Guard” award ceremony to honor the best traffic policemen and assistants in the eyes of the students. The winners have made outstanding contributions to ensure road safety around primary and middle schools in Shanghai.

Launched in March this year, the “My Favorite Crossing Guard” program encourages Shanghai students to choose their favorite traffic policemen and assistants by submitting essays explaining why their crossing guard is their favorite. A total of 3,044 essays from the students in 98 primary and middle schools in Shanghai were submitted during the four-month campaign.

Through an evaluation by a panel of judges and online voting, eight traffic policemen and ten traffic assistants have been recognized as “My Favorite Crossing Guard”. In addition, 30 essays from the students were selected as “Excellent Stories.”

“FedEx not only delivers fast and reliable service in China, but also cares for the community where we live and work. As a corporate citizen, FedEx has long been committed to supporting child pedestrian safety education,” said Audrey Cheong, managing director of operations, international service, FedEx China. “We hope this program will help increase road safety around schools and provide a better walking environment for students. We will continue our cooperation with Safe Kids Worldwide and relevant government agencies to support children safety programs.”

“In China, more than 35,000 children suffer from road accident injuries every year,” said Monica Cui, executive director, Safe Kids China. “Most of the accidents happen to children on their way to and from school. When the traffic policemen and assistants are standing in front of the school gate, parents and students feel safe and secure. We appreciated the contributions of those ‘Crossing Guards.’ Society as a whole should support their work and enhance road safety.”

FedEx has worked closely with Safe Kids Worldwide over the past years to promote safety awareness for children all over the world. Since the company began its relationship with Safe Kids China in April 2004, it has sponsored safety education for more than 1.4 million students through in-school programs throughout the country. Nearly 700 FedEx employees have volunteered their time to work with teachers to educate students about road safety through interesting games and demonstrations in order to create a safer environment for child pedestrians around schools.
