MEMPHIS, June 1, 2012—IDG’s CIO magazine today announced FedEx Corp. as a recipient of the 2012 CIO 100. The 25th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.

FedEx was recognized specifically for its Common Data Service. Developed to ensure high data availability globally, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Common Data Service is a new, more efficient, generalized and reusable service that pushes data out to its various centers based on customer proximity. Fundamentally, it’s a private data cloud.

“FedEx Common Data Service is a reliable, no-outage solution that guarantees a positive experience for customers and operations around the world,” said Sherry Aaholm, executive vice president of Information Technology for FedEx Services.

Executives from FedEx and other winning companies will be recognized at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony Aug 21. Complete coverage of the 2012 CIO 100 awards will be online at www.cio.com and in the August issue of CIO magazine

“For 25 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine & events. “Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage.”
