FedEx pursues its regional development and moves into Lille

Paris, December 4th, 2006 – FedEx, the world’s largest express transportation company, has just opened a new agency in Lille, on the site of Lesquin airport. Delivery and pick-up for FedEx customers located in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions will now be done directly by FedEx courriers.

Daily road links between Lesquin and the FedEx European hub at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle will now connect customers in this region to FedEx’ global network.

The Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, and in particular the urban area of Lille, is a world-class economic centre. The mail-order markets and sectors such as the textile industry, mass retailing, printing and publishing, mechanics and electronics, the food industry as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries have greatly driven the region’s current economic expansion.

In just a few years, it has become a large international trade centre with 2,000 exporting companies and 3,000 importers running operations in the region. Moreover, the potential of the European market with 100 million people located less than 300 km from Lille (British, Belgian, Dutch and French) is an additional asset for FedEx.

FedEx has decided to move closer to these companies to support their development by offering daily express transport services that cater to their needs, delivering to the USA or Europe overnight and to Asia within 48 hours.

The opening of the agency in Lille further creates 20 jobs (permanent contracts), ranging from messengers to sales and marketing staff plus the agency manager.
