FedEx Opens First Station In Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture

TOKYO, Feb. 7, 2008 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the opening of its first station in Sendai City, Miyagi prefecture.

The new Sendai Station allows FedEx to reduce delivery times by up to one business day from certain parts of the prefecture. For example, shipments called in before 11 a.m. can be loaded on the same-day flight from the following places: Natori City, Iwanuma City, Furukawa and Sanbongi in Osaki City; Ohira-Mura, Taiwa-Cho, and Tomiya-Machi in Kurokawa County; Murata-Machi and Shibata-Machi in Shibata County. Previously, shipments could only make the next-day flight.

In addition, in Wakuya-Cho in Tooda County, FedEx now operates its own pickup and delivery, meaning that shipments called in by the cut-off time of 11 a.m. can also be loaded on the same-day flight.

All shipments passing through the new Sendai Station are sent to Narita International Airport and loaded on to FedEx planes following customs clearance.

Prior to the opening of the new facility, Koriyama Station in Fukushima prefecture handled FedEx operations in Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures. As customers in the latter two prefectures are now served locally, they can experience greater efficiencies. FedEx will provide a more integrated, localized, customer-oriented service throughout the northeast Tohoku region to cater to the expected growing demand for air express services.

“The Sendai facility is the fourth we have opened in Japan this fiscal year,” said Masamichi Ujiie, vice president, North Pacific, FedEx. “The station has been opened in response to customer demand, and allows us to provide service enhancements to many of our customers in Tohoku area.”

FedEx has announced plans to open five stations in fiscal 2008 (July 2007-May 2008). New stations have already opened in Okayama City (Okayama prefecture), Nagaoka City (Niigata prefecture), and Kameyama City (Mie prefecture), and now Sendai. The fifth station is planned to open in Shiga prefecture.
