KUALA LUMPUR, September 23, 2014 —Working with the Food Aid Foundation, 94 FedEx Express (FedEx) volunteers prepared, cooked and delivered hearty meals and dried food to senior citizens and special needs children in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

The “Delivering Love to the Community” activity consists of two parts, namely “Cook and Serve” and “Pack and Deliver”. As part of the “Cook and Serve” team, FedEx volunteers helped clean and prepare ingredients, and assisted chefs from the Food Aid Foundation to cook a nutritious three-course lunch for 260 residents. FedEx volunteers in the “Pack and Deliver” group weighed, sorted and packed 110 boxes of dried food such as rice vermicelli, white glutinous rice and canned food for delivery by FedEx vans to charity organizations in the two states.

“Volunteerism is an integral part of our FedEx culture,” said Ramesh Kumar Singam, managing director, FedEx Express Malaysia and Brunei. “Each year, we undertake projects that make a positive difference in our society. FedEx Cares Week is one of these programs. I am proud to see the care and enthusiasm shown by our team members to help address the social needs of our communities.”

The “Delivering Love to the Community” activity was part of the seventh annual FedEx Cares Week, held September 20 to 28. During FedEx Cares Week, FedEx employees in 12 Asia Pacific markets join FedEx colleagues around the world to give back to their communities.

FedEx Cares Week has been held since 2008. This year, around 1,000 FedEx volunteers across the region committed more than 4,000 hours in 36 community activities.
