TIANJIN, Sept. 3, 2009 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, today launched Safe Kids Walk This Way month with a pedestrian safety program for Tianjin school children. Programs will be held in seven cities throughout China to encourage children to practice the “Stop, Look, and Cross” habit when walking to school and around their communities.

“We need to remind students to use caution when crossing the street,” said Eddy Chan, senior vice president, FedEx China. “If we can instill safe pedestrian habits in children, we will have them grown up to be both a safe driver and a safe pedestrian.”

Programs similar to the one in Tianjin will be held in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Wuhan and Xiamen, where FedEx employees will conduct pedestrian safety programs with students.

“FedEx has long been committed to supporting child pedestrian safety initiatives and as FedEx employees, we are proud to be part of this initiative,” said Eva Zhao, FedEx volunteer team leader for the An Shan Road Elementary School program in Tianjin’s He Ping district. “These programs are all being led by employees who have been trained by Safe Kids.”

During China’s Safe Kids Walk This Way month, not only are FedEx employees getting involved, government agencies are also participating. For example, in Shanghai both the Traffic Police and the Municipal Education Commission are encouraging child pedestrians to “Stop, Look and Cross” and drivers to “slow down around the school zone.”

“I am encouraged by the collaborative spirit of all parties involved in Walk This Way month,” said Monica Cui, executive director, Safe Kids China. “With FedEx teaching students safe pedestrian habits and the related government agencies encouraging both child pedestrians and drivers to practice safe habits, we are starting the school year on a very positive note.”

Since the partnership with Safe Kids China began in 2004, nearly 900 FedEx employees have volunteered their time to work with teachers to educate students about road safety through interesting games and demonstrations, in order to create a safer environment for child pedestrians around schools.
