FedEx Introduces Worldwide Technology Enhancements

BEIJING, January 26, 2011 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced significant enhancements to its FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics service, an integrated logistics solution that enables customers to more efficiently manage high-value and time-critical inventory throughout the supply chain.

Customers using FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics service can now electronically place global orders, track inventory levels and order status at various points, and maintain visibility to FedEx domestic and international shipments by simply logging onto a web application on fedex.com. Status updates are also supported through electronic data interchange and delivered in a common global message format.

These enhanced capabilities were developed by FedEx using a flexible IT framework designed to enable ongoing global enhancements that will continue to meet evolving customer needs. FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics customers around the globe can now access inventory and shipping status in real time—no matter where the order was placed or where it will be delivered. This service includes a warehouse management system and order management system, enabling consistency in capabilities and reliability around the world.

“As Asian businesses become more and more global, the value of outsourcing supply chain management is increasingly apparent,” said David L. Cunningham, Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “This enhanced solution, which now offers a single online access point for managing global supply chains, provides our customers with an easy-to-use, globally integrated solution to manage their critical inventory. This is yet another testament of our commitment to enhance the customer experience.”

FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics in Asia

As part of its portfolio of services, FedEx has been providing supply chain logistics management solutions in the Asia Pacific region for more than a decade. Early this year, FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics was formalized as a highly-specialized supply chain management service that supports critical inventory logistics, transportation management and temperature-controlled transportation through a network of owned or managed resources integrated via advanced IT systems.

FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics allow customers to locate their most critical inventory at regional distribution centres and forward-stock locations across all Asia Pacific markets. These include mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan, among others. These stock locations are generally located near business centers and hospitals and enable customers’ field representatives to pick up or deliver critical parts or devices on a short notice.

Just-In-Time & Just-In-Case Critical Inventory Management

FedEx supply chain experts work with customers to first determine how to best position their critical inventories throughout the FedEx distribution network and then develop plans to optimize their overall supply chain. Once the service is in place, orders are fulfilled by identifying the best sourcing locations and transportation option that meets the required delivery time or service level desired by the customer.

Other customer benefits of FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics include:

• A dedicated website on fedex.com, allowing customers to place orders, manage inventory and obtain order and shipment status in real time on a 24/7 basis.

• Customer program management support that enables a single point of contact through the supply chain, providing reliability and consistency.

• Same-day fulfillment within cities and extended order cut-off times from central stocking locations provides predictability & visibility.
