TOKYO, March 13, 2017—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), conducted a one-day job shadow program for 15 students from Seitoku University Girls High School on March 10 at the FedEx Makuhari office in Mihama-ku, Chiba City.

Since 2007, FedEx has regularly conducted the job shadow program in conjunction with Junior Achievement Japan, an economic education organization, which strives to train young people with the skills they need to go out into the workforce.

During the program, students shadowed FedEx employees responsible for sales, customer service, operations, finance, engineering and vehicle administration. The students learned about FedEx global business, the various employee roles and responsibilities, and the importance of teamwork when providing exceptional customer service.

The job shadow program gives students an up-close opportunity to better understand how their studies relate to work in the real world. One student follows one employee like a shadow, sharing the details of the job and experiencing the employee’s enthusiasm and commitment. The FedEx team hopes this experience will help inspire students as they choose their courses, plan their future, and decide on a career path.

“At FedEx, employees across multiple functions work seamlessly together to deliver shipments safely and reliably to our customers,” said Masamichi Ujiie, regional vice president, North Pacific, FedEx Express. “Strong collaboration between functions is important as we develop new solutions and services to meet the increasingly demanding needs of customers in our diversified global economy. Students experienced how each individual job plays an integral role in helping achieve the shared goal of providing outstanding customer service. I hope the future leaders who participated today were inspired as they begin planning their own career path.”

“I have come to realize that school, including classes like English and mathematics, as well as extra-curricular activities, offers many useful lessons for my future. I hope to apply what I learned today to my future studies and life”, stated one participating student. After the job shadowing, a group discussion was held where FedEx employees explained their personal journey from their school days to their current career and also answered questions from students.
