FRANKFURT/MAIN, GERMANY, October 17, 2010—Team members at FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), spruced up Elli-Lucht-Park in Frankfurt-Niederrad on Saturday as part of the global ‘FedEx Cares Week.’
Volunteers from the world’s largest express transportation company collected leaves, shoveled trash and tackled pedestrian walkways to undertake a large-scale clean-up of the local park. Elli-Lucht-Park, located near the University Hospital, is a recreational area with a playground, a wooded bird protection zone, and long-established fruit trees. For a number of years it has been at the heart of the local community.
The volunteer work was carried out as part of the worldwide ‘FedEx Cares Week,’ during which more than 4,000 FedEx employees in more than 40 countries participated in a range of social and environmental projects. Teams around the globe were involved in planting trees, refurbishing run-down classrooms, distributing food to the needy, as well as working in homes for the elderly or with people with disabilities.
FedEx Cares Week is just one example of FedEx’s commitment to social responsibility. In Germany, FedEx supports several charities, including SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. and Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V.
