SHANGHAI, September 16, 2009 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has kicked off FedEx Cares Week, its annual week of service to benefit local communities, which runs September 14 - 20.

Following the program’s inaugural success in the region last year, FedEx Cares Week has expanded its footprint to 32 initiatives benefiting 29 cities in 11 Asia Pacific markets.

“Volunteerism has been a hallmark of our company for decades,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “FedEx Cares Week creates an opportunity for our team members to support meaningful community projects.”

Mainland China will hold 17 employee-led initiatives in eight cities—Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Haiku, Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuhan and Xiamen. Around 300 FedEx team members will dedicate their time and collaborative efforts toward a variety of community projects, ranging from promoting environmental awareness through an outing with autistic children to elderly home and orphanage visits to safety and emergency evacuation training for students.

“Since we entered the China market 25 years ago, FedEx has contributed to the community, through social causes that reflect the company’s overarching values,” said Eddy Chan, senior vice president, FedEx China. “I’m impressed with our employees’ passion to volunteer and make a difference in their hometowns.”

FedEx Cares Week is a global initiative which will be celebrated on September 21 – 28 in the U.S. and Latin America.
