SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL, NOV. 9, 2007 – FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation and global logistics solutions provider, recently announced the opening of a wholly-owned operations center in Blumenau, Santa Catarina. The new center is a reflection of the increase in demand for transportation solutions in the region, which is known for its high concentration of companies in the textile, lumber and machinery industries.

The Blumenau center services 41 cities in the southwest region of Santa Catarina through five daily routes, each one with 24 pickup locations. The center is connected directly to the Viracopos Airport in Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, from where shipments take off to Memphis, Tenn., five times a week.

“Every morning, our truck leaves Viracopos and heads to Blumenau, taking imports destined for the region. It stops in Joinville, where some of the shipments are distributed to neighboring cities, and comes back at night by the same route to bring the products from Santa Catarina for the U.S. and the rest of the world,” said Carlos Ienne, managing director of operations for the Mercosul region of FedEx Express.
