FedEx Express Opens a New Station in Bordeaux

BORDEAUX, France, April 5, 2012—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the opening of a new station in Bordeaux. This is the tenth station that FedEx Express has opened in France since October 2011 and offers businesses in Bordeaux, as well as those in the surrounding Aquitaine region, access to 90 percent of the world’s GDP within one to two business days as a result of the FedEx global express network.

The 1,000 square-meter Bordeaux station is connected through a road and air networks to the FedEx European hub at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle, which has been granted the highly-regarded ISO 14001:2004 certification for environmental management. The new facility is operating 12 FedEx vans, has created 13 jobs for the Aquitaine region, and has processed more than 530 shipments during its first two days of operation alone.

The Aquitaine region has a well-developed transport infrastructure, an attractive location, a dense and diverse economic base and the presence of numerous head offices. With this new station, more than 400 international companies already located in the region can now benefit from greater connectivity to a diverse range of markets around the world.

“Bordeaux is a dynamic and attractive city for companies and businesses located in the South-West of France and is connected to 50 European cities, 24 international flight routes and 300 ports around the world,” said Dirk van Impe, managing director, Operations, FedEx Express France. “The new station in Bordeaux reiterates our understanding of the substantial transportation needs this global business hub has. Our new station makes it easy for the more than 100,000 businesses located in the city to connect and trade with global markets in the shortest time possible.”

With a wide range of transportation services on offer, local companies of all sizes seeking to expand their businesses in Europe and around the globe can benefit from improved shipping times. Customers in the region can now have access to a wide range of FedEx Intra-European and Intercontinental express transportation services, including next-business-day deliveries and economy services within two to five business days. These services are available for documents and small parcels as well as large shipments. For example, a company needing a next-business-day delivery by 3 p.m. to a city on the East Coast of the U.S. can tender their shipment as late as 7 p.m. the day before.

FedEx provides specific solutions to meet the business requirements of the three main industry sectors in the Aquitaine region: aerospace & aviation, high-tech and the wine sector. For instance, FedEx offers customs clearance, advice on import and export regulations, documentation and classification, tariffs, and currency exchange for the aerospace & aviation sector; special handling, up-to-date documentation and regulatory compliance for the high tech sector; and the “bottle box”—a special packaging designed for wine transportation, where permitted by regulation.

Over the past months FedEx Express in France has opened nine new stations, in Angers, Beauvais-Creil, Metz, Montpellier, Mulhouse, Nantes, Orléans, Rennes and Strasbourg.
