FedEx Express Offers Later Pick-Up Options for Eastern China Exporters to the United States

SHANGHAI, Dec. 17, 2010—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has further enhanced its same-day international shipping services from Eastern China to the U.S. with pick-up times up to two hours later, Monday through Friday. Customers in 25 Eastern China cities can now arrange for shipments destined for the U.S. to be picked up as late as 6 p.m . The service enhancement provides customers with increased flexibility, while still having the same FedEx speed and reliability.

The latest service enhancement builds on the improvements Eastern China experienced from the launch of 777 Freighter in January of this year, which flies direct from Shanghai to the FedEx World Hub in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. The 777F has increased FedEx services capabilities, its fuel and operational efficiency as well as its competitive edge.

The U.S. is a very important trading partner of China, and Eastern China’s Yangtze River Delta plays a key role in this bilateral trade, with double digit growth in most provinces for this trade lane. For example, in the first four months of this year, Jiangsu Province exported USD15.37 billion worth of goods, up 22.6% from the previous year; the province’s trade surplus totaled USD 11.33 billion, with year-on-year growth of 15.3% according to Jiangsu Customs. Now, exporters in Jiangsu province and other areas in Eastern China have more flexibility to seize US trade opportunities through the FedEx upgraded services.

“Together with the recent service improvement from Eastern China to Europe, FedEx established itself as best in class in this rapid growing coastal area”, said Audrey Cheong, managing director of Operations, International Service, FedEx China.

“We are ahead of the market in offering customers the best possible services.”
