FedEx Express Launches Campaign to Support SMEs in 2012

SEOUL, Mar. 7, 2012— FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, is launching a campaign to help small and medium sized enterprises in Korea take advantage of the surge in global demand for Korean culture and products, also known as the “Korean Wave.” The campaign will support the activation of overseas business and export opportunities for Korean companies.

The Korean Wave has been identified in diverse industries including clothing, cosmetics, cars, music and film. Starting in South East Asia, Japan and China, the Wave has been spreading more recently to North America, the Middle East, Europe, and South America. According to research conducted by the Korea Customs Service, from 2005 to 2010 Korean exports to countries classified as being affected by the Korean Wave showed a remarkable increase—for example 7,716% for Iraq and 320% for Peru, significantly ahead of the trend for exports to non-Korean Wave countries such as India and Israel. Experts forecast that the Korean Wave excitement will revitalize businesses and export volume in the relevant industries.

“This presents a great opportunity for Korean companies to promote products and culture created in Korea and also to improve their corporate image,” said Eun Mi Chae, managing director of FedEx Korea. “The enthusiasm of overseas markets will be a crucial factor in the prosperity of small and medium sized enterprises. FedEx Korea supports these local companies and we will provide assistance through access to our extensive global network and commitment to the customer experience.”

During 2012, FedEx Korea will hold a number of seminars for small and medium sized enterprises addressing the opportunities brought about by the Korean Wave. Additionally, FedEx plans to offer unique activities that generate interest and appreciation among tourists, businesses and consumers.
