PARIS, Dec. 13, 2011—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the launch of new green delivery vehicles fleet in the French capital. As of today, FedEx Express will operate a total of seven electrically-assisted tricycles from The Green Link for package deliveries and collections for FedEx customers located in the 3rd, 4th and 10th districts in Paris.
Following a successful trial period in Paris’ 3rd and 4th districts starting in spring 2011 with four tricycles—each of them fully FedEx Express branded—FedEx Express has now ramped up the number of tricycles to seven and extended the service to Paris’ 10th district.
“More sustainable deliveries have always been important for FedEx Express in France. For example, we also introduced five fully-electric Modec trucks to the 7th and the 8thdistricts in Paris in May 2010. At Roissy-CDG, 80% of our ramp vehicles run on LPG or electricity, benefiting both the environment and our commercial operations. This is also in line with our commitment to integrating responsible environmental practices into our daily operations,” said Dirk van Impe, managing director, France Operations, FedEx Express.
“As well as providing greener deliveries, the tricycles are also able to negotiate the narrow and often pedestrian-only streets of inner-city Paris, giving us more direct contact with our urban customers. This is also a considerable advantage during rush hour in the capital’s busiest neighborhoods. With the success of these zero-emissions tricycles, we hope to expand the service to other European cities in the future,” he adds.
Worldwide, FedEx operates all-electric delivery vehicles in Los Angeles, London, Paris, New York, Chicago and Memphis. In 2011, the company—which set for itself the objective of improving the energy efficiency of its vehicles by 20% by 2020—has expanded its fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles to 408. The fleet has already logged more than 10 million miles, which is about 20 times to the moon and back. The company has saved approximately 1 044 773 liters of fuel, reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 2,800 metric tons.
