STANSTED, UK, June. 3, 2010—FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has delivered free of charge over 100 artworks from around the world for an art exhibition and charity auction arranged by Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people. The auction at Christie’s auction house was attended by a number of esteemed guests including HRH Prince William of Wales.
FedEx Express shipped some of the world’s finest 20th and 21st Century photographs from countries including China, Cuba, Iran, Korea, Mali, South Africa and Thailand, to Somerset House in London for the exhibition “A Positive View” that ran from 10th March to 5th April and featured over 100 pieces of work. The royal charity auction was held on 15th April at Christie’s auction house to raise money for Crisis which will be used to develop its work with single homeless people across the UK.
“FedEx Express, as a trusted transporter of valuable goods, is privileged to have been responsible for transporting these artworks which have shown their social as well as financial value by benefiting many of the UK’s homeless people,” said Adam Psarianos, Vice President, Operations, FedEx Express Northern Europe. “We invest considerable resources in providing our own employees with as much support as possible to realize their potential. It makes sense for us to engage with the community and provide the less privileged that same opportunity, which Crisis allows us to do.”
The live auction featured over 100 works that had been given the highest reserve prices or estimates. Aside from Prince William, other notable Crisis patrons including Alexandra Shulman, editor of Vogue, and photographers John Rankin and Lord Snowdon attended the auction.
