HALIFAX, NS. June 8, 2013 – FedEx Express Canada, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), participated in a special delivery Saturday morning with the delivery of 70 dogs to Halifax-based, Litters ‘n Critters Animal Rescue Society. A joint effort which also involved the Happy Valley-Goose Bay SPCA, Operation Northern Dog Rescue was initiated in response to a request from Simeon Tshakapesh, chief of the Innu band council in Natuashish, NL to assist with local efforts to ease pressures with the over-population of stray dogs.
“The people of the Mushuau Innu community along with the volunteers at the SPCA and Litter ‘n Critters have demonstrated to Canada how leadership and determination can overcome any challenge,” said Lisa Lisson, President of FedEx Express Canada. “On behalf of all 6,000 of our employees across our country, I am thrilled to have FedEx Express Canada do what we can to facilitate this inspiring initiative.”
The 70 dogs were loaded into specially-designed crates, where they were subsequently boarded onto an ATR-72 at CFB Goose Bay (airport code YYR) that was specially charted by FedEx Express Canada. The dogs traveled in comfort during the 1.5 hour flight while their health and care were monitored closely by FedEx Express Canada staff. The dogs were greeted at Halifax’s Robert L. Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) by crowds of volunteers and local well-wishers. The dogs were unloaded and brought directly to Litters ‘n Critters where efforts are already underway to find each dog a loving home.

This marks the second dog rescue mission coordinated between FedEx Express Canada (which donated its delivery services for Operation Northern Dog Rescue), the Happy Valley-Goose Bay SPCA, and Litters ‘n Critters in the last year. In July, 2012, FedEx Express Canada delivered 50 puppies aboard the FedEx Labramushkadoodle Express to assist with efforts in finding stray dogs new homes as a result of forest fires and a cargo embargo due to extreme heat throughout Labrador. On March 25, 2013, FedEx Express Canada also facilitated the highly-anticipated arrival of Er Shun and Da Mao, the two giant pandas currently residing at the Toronto Zoo.
