FedEx Employees Spearhead Eye-Care Awareness in Mumbai

MUMBAI, March 26, 2007—In its continuing efforts to give back to the community, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) today organised the last of eight free eye check-up camps for children in Mumbai. This final camp in association with Hamara Foundation, an NGO working for the welfare of street children, is part of the FedEx Free Paediatric Eye Check-up Campaign for children in Mumbai, organised and conducted by FedEx employees in India .

The Lotus School of Optometry trained dozens of FedEx employees to conduct preliminary eye check-ups that would help identify symptoms of common eye diseases in India . For a month, 46 FedEx employee-volunteers have conducted check-ups in various camps across the city, assessing more than 5,000 children to date. Children identified with serious vision problems were sent to the Lotus Eye Hospital for further testing and treatment.

“It is a very humbling experience to be able to make such a difference to the life of a child,” said Shailesh Hasabnis, a FedEx employee and volunteer at the camp. “I am proud to be part of a company that strongly believes that it is up to all of us to try and make this world a better place to live. We have screened more than 5,000 children through our camps so far and I’m confident that this drive will make parents more aware of the need for preventive eye care.”

As part of this campaign, FedEx employees have also distributed eye disease prevention leaflets with FedEx shipments delivered in Mumbai. These brochures are also being given out to children visiting the camps to help spread the message about the importance of eye care.

“Early identification and treatment is critical in preventing blindness, which is the reason why we have undertaken this effort,” said Jacques Creeten, vice president India , FedEx Express. “Making parents aware of both the symptoms of eye diseases and the proper preventive measures can go a long way towards saving the sight of many children throughout India .”

“At FedEx, we are committed to contributing to the communities in which we operate by identifying and addressing social issues, and encouraging our employees to help make the ir communities better places to live, work, and play.”
