London - June 21, 2006 - The commitment by FedEx to road safety and its work with Brake, the national road safety charity, in establishing the FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy, was recognised by the UK Institute of Couriers last night at its 2006 National Courier Awards ceremony.
FedEx was honoured with the Institute’s Corporate Road Safety Award 2006, presented by the Hon. Stephen Ladyman, Minister for Transport.
FedEx UK Managing Director, Trevor Hoyle, said: “That the FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy has been recognised by our industry peers is a testament to FedEx’s employees and, especially, to the 1475 volunteers now trained by the academy who are taking vital road safety messages to their local communities.”

- The FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy is raising the profile and awareness of road safety issues in the community across age and experience groups - from young, inexperienced drivers through to families and experienced fleet drivers.
- Since its inception in August 2004, the academy has held 68 training courses and trained 1475 graduates across five modules: Company Driver Safety, Young Driver Safety, Family Road Safety, Community Road Safety and Getting Road Safety in the News.
