FedEx earns Corporate Safety Award for commitment to road safety

London - June 21, 2006 - The commitment by FedEx to road safety and its work with Brake, the national road safety charity, in establishing the FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy, was recognised by the UK Institute of Couriers last night at its 2006 National Courier Awards ceremony.

FedEx was honoured with the Institute’s Corporate Road Safety Award 2006, presented by the Hon. Stephen Ladyman, Minister for Transport.

FedEx UK Managing Director, Trevor Hoyle, said: “That the FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy has been recognised by our industry peers is a testament to FedEx’s employees and, especially, to the 1475 volunteers now trained by the academy who are taking vital road safety messages to their local communities.”

“As our couriers alone travel more than 1 millions miles on UK roads every year, FedEx wants to share its vast experience in road safety and help to raise community awareness of key road safety issues including speeding, drink driving, fatigue and unlicensed driving. The FedEx & Brake Road Safety Academy graduates are making an immense contribution to local road safety and I commend each of them enormously,” Mr Hoyle said.
