November 04, 2011: FedEx is providing donated funds towards a charter flight this week to deliver 600 ShelterBoxes in support of the earthquake relief efforts in Turkey. Arranged by FedEx Trade Networks, the charter flight will depart from the United Kingdom destined for Erzurum, Turkey.

Each large, green ShelterBox is designed for a family of 10 and typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

FedEx maintains a longstanding commitment to disaster relief. The company donated more than five million pounds (approximately 2,300 tons) of charitable shipping last year alone. The most recent donation provided two airlifts to Nairobi for Somalia famine relief, delivering 182 metric tons of high-nutrient food. Also, 1,000 shelter kits were sent to Sikkim India earthquake victims in October and a shipment of 55 tons of baby food moved by ocean to Japan recently for ongoing relief following the earthquake/tsunami in March.
