FedEx Brings Free Cardiac Care to Rural Vietnam

THAI BINH, September 30, 2015 — In an effort to make cardiac health services more accessible in remote areas in Vietnam, FedEx Express and Heartbeat Vietnam (a subsidiary of VinaCapital Foundation) recently brought FedEx Delivers Heartbeats mobile medical outreach clinics to Thai Binh and Binh Thuan provinces.

The outreach clinics provided free cardiac care for children with congenital heart diseases in each province. Top cardiologists from Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Danang staffed the clinics and offered patient services including diagnostic testing and placement on the national cardiac surgery waiting list (if needed). FedEx employees also provided manpower support by handling patient registration and assisting with post-operative coordination for the children and their families. The initiative is part of FedEx Vietnam’s celebration of the eighth annual FedEx Cares Week, a worldwide program where FedEx team members in 12 Asia-Pacific markets[1] give back to their communities.

“At FedEx, our commitment extends beyond our responsibilities to customers,” said Nguyen Duy Binh, senior manager for FedEx in Indochina and chief representative of FedEx in Vietnam. “We have served Vietnam for over 20 years and are equally invested in supporting the social needs of local communities. Through FedEx Delivers Heartbeats, we help deliver cardiac health care to children from underserved rural areas who are severely limited by the high cost of proper treatment. We hope the treatment the kids will receive enables them to lead healthy and productive lives.”

Across the region, FedEx Cares Week activities will have a strong community and sustainability focus. About 1,100 FedEx volunteers in Asia Pacific are expected to take part in 42 community activities from September 10 to November 7.

Globally, more than 10,000 FedEx team members are expected to volunteer nearly 55,000 hours during FedEx Cares Week. FedEx Corp. began this tradition in a handful of U.S. cities in 2004 and has since expanded it to nearly 500 global communities where its team members live and work.
