FedEx Becomes First Integrator to Receive Authorized Customs Broker Certification in Japan

TOKYO, July 18, 2013 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), the world’s largest express transportation company, received Authorized Customs Broker certification, one category of the AEO1 (Authorized Economic Operator) from Tokyo Customs on June 27. Authorized Customs Broker status certifies that FedEx is capable of security management and maintains a well-developed compliance system which will lead to less document screening and inspections. This, in turn, will speed up and streamline the handling of cargo transport for FedEx customers.

Certified operators include the five FedEx offices at Narita Station, Narita International Airport Station, Kansai Station, Kansai International Airport Station and Shinsuna Station. The FedEx Shinsuna bonded warehouse, Narita bonded warehouse and part of the Kansai bonded warehouse received Authorized Warehouse Operator certification in February 2012.

Specific advantages for FedEx customers because of Authorized Customs Broker certification include:

· For import cargo customs, FedEx can complete the AEO tax declaration after delivery to customers (under Japan’s special consignment import declaration system), which will add a new level of speed and smooth handling of imported cargo.

· For export cargo customs, FedEx can perform export declarations for cargo located outside the bonded area on the condition of the cargo being transported by an AEO-certified operator (under Japan’s special consignment export declaration system), which will cut lead times and cost.

· Simplification of import and export customs procedures and the reduction of items to declare will ensure faster and smoother handling of cargo.

“Receiving AEO certification and being recognized for security and compliance in Japan is truly an honor for FedEx,” said Masamichi Ujiie, vice president, North Pacific, FedEx Express. “As a certified customs operator, FedEx will continue to enhance both security and compliance in order to benefit FedEx customers by providing safe and rapid services

*1 AEO is a system designed to ease and simplify customs procedures for operators with stringent security management and compliance systems in order to maintain security and ensure smooth operations in international logistics while enhancing Japan’s international competitiveness.
