HO CHI MINH CITY, May 17, 2018 — FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, participated in the Road Safety Assessment Workshop on May 17, organized by the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) and the Safe Kids Vietnam-Asia Injury Prevention (AIP).

The event brings together representatives from these organizations as well as the World Bank (WB), International Road Assessment Program (iRAP), and the World Resources Institute (WRI) to discuss ongoing road safety initiatives and implementation progress. The workshop also aims to mobilize support from all stakeholders to advocate collectively for school zone modifications.

During the workshop, Safe Kids Vietnam-AIP Foundation presented the results of its road safety assessment for school districts through the iRAP star rating application at 37 schools located near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors in Ho Chi Minh City. Through the evaluation, the Safe Kids Vietnam-AIP Foundation and the World Resources Organization (WRI) also proposed solutions to improve traffic safety for school districts. Safe Kids Vietnam-AIP Foundation also introduced the Walk this Way Safe School Zone Manual, which outlines the safe systems approach for improving road safety.

FedEx has been a long-time advocate for road safety, having launched the Walk This Way (WTW) program with Safe Kids Vietnam-AIP in 2009 to encourage improvements in road user behaviors among motorists and create safer, more walkable communities for child pedestrians. Since its launch, the program has reached 268,859 students from 315 primary and secondary schools across the country; installed a 1,700 square meter traffic safety park in Dong Nai Province for primary school students; and, donated 3,471 helmets, 19,855 reflective jackets and caps, and 138,087 pedestrian safety books to students.
