TAIPEI, April 29, 2015 — FedEx Express (FedEx) joined hands with the Fubon Charity Foundation (Fubon) to deliver supplies to underprivileged children throughout April. FedEx dedicated its vehicles and volunteers to deliver more than 2,000 goods to over 2,000 children from 60 schools around Taiwan. The supplies, which were donated by employees of the Fubon Group, range from books to stationery to sports gear to daily supplies. This community initiative was undertaken to celebrate Children’s Day and help combat economic inequality.

Despite economic developments over the years, there are about 148,500 low-income households or 353,500 people from these families in Taiwan, an increase of more than 70 percent from a decade ago[1]. Poverty or resource deprivation can have a profound impact on childhood development as children may not have basic resources for day-to-day life.

“At FedEx, access does not stop with connecting businesses with the world’s opportunities, it also extends to the community,” said Michael Chu, managing director, FedEx Express, Taiwan. “Our collaboration with Fubon demonstrates the power of access where we leverage our logistics expertise and network to move resources to where they are needed most, so that the children in need have the supplies for a healthier, happier childhood.”

“I am very happy to receive the dictionary,” said one of the children. “I always wanted one in order to study better. I would like to thank Fubon and FedEx for delivering this useful tool to me.”
