On Wednesday, July 22, FedEx and City Parks Foundation announced the selection of Daquan Peart, as the first summer intern for the Grove Hill Learning Garden in the Bronx, New York. Peart is a Bronx native and a graduating senior from Eagle Academy High School. The internship is supported by FedEx, as part of its larger relationship with City Parks Foundation.

Bronx community leaders joined representatives from FedEx and City Parks at Grove Hill Learning Garden yesterday, to learn more about the summer internship program, meet with the new intern, and to tour the garden. Notable attendees included State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson and principals and teachers representing local public schools.

Claudia DeMegret, Director of City Parks Education programs, welcomed guests to the garden and provided remarks noting Peart’s accomplishments, including perfect high school attendance and previous volunteer experience. She also discussed the education programs he will support as part of the internship. Joe Gomez, Manager for Harlem River Yards Station, shared congratulations with Peart on behalf of FedEx, for his selection as the garden’s inaugural intern.

During his internship, Peart will receive hands-on job training and leadership development. He will also assist with garden programming that serves participants from such diverse groups as family assistance shelters, Head Start programs, college preparatory groups, and senior centers.

In addition to supporting the summer internship program at Grove Hill Learning Garden, FedEx has contributed to City Parks’ arts and education programming in the South Bronx.
