HO CHI MINH CITY, April 7, 2011 - FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) has launched a competition to promote pedestrian safety and usage of its Traffic Safety Park among primary school children. Organized in conjunction with the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation/Safe Kids Vietnam, the ‘Who is the number one?’ competition is taking place on April 7th at the Quang Bien Primary School in Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province. The Traffic Safety Park was constructed at the school in November 2010 as part of the “Walk This Way” program.
100 students are participating in the competition along with FedEx employees and volunteer supporters from 32 primary schools in Trang Bom District. All participants will join the first round of events at the Traffic Safety Park
For the second round, which is designed like the Vietnamese ‘Ring the Golden Bell’ game show, students must answer traffic safety questions that become increasingly difficult. Those unable to answer in the time allowed are gradually eliminated until a winner emerges.
“FedEx is very pleased to be organizing this competition which I’m sure will appeal to the children’s competitive instincts at the same time as enriching their knowledge and safety skills,” said Mr. Nguyen Duy Binh, Senior Manager of Indochina, Chief Representative of FedEx Vietnam.
“This competition gives students the opportunity to learn life saving traffic safety lessons in a fun and exciting way,” said Mirjam Sidik, Executive Director of AIP Foundation/ Safe Kids Vietnam. “We hope students are encouraged to continue playing and learning at the Traffic Safety Park even after the competition is finished.”
FedEx and AIP launched the Traffic Safety Park and Click on Safety E-learning program at Quang Bien primary school last year in order to improve children’s pedestrian safety awareness and skills.
