San Juan, PR May 2008 - FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation and global logistics solutions provider, has plans in place to facilitate the increase in shipments leading up to Mothers Day including adding additional flights and arranging for additional refrigerated trucks to transport flowers to its major hubs and ramps across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Mother’s Day is one of the busiest periods every year for FedEx, with Express deliveries increasing as much as 10% between April 28 and May 10 this year. FedEx Express expects to see the largest delivery volume of flowers, plants and gifts for moms on Friday, May 10, with 20 times more domestic flower deliveries than on an average day.
During the week leading up to Mother’s Day, the global FedEx Express network will be shipping millions of flowers from Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico and the Netherlands, both via overnight express and cool chain transport. According to the US Department of Agriculture, most flowers sent for Mother’s Day were likely grown in California or Colombia, the leading domestic and foreign supplier of cut flowers, respectively. Colombia is the largest producer of cut flowers imported to the US, with 75% of all US flower imports coming from Colombia.
