FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), the world’s largest express transportation company, has introduced FedEx Surround® to customers in Poland. The advanced monitoring solution provides near‑real-time shipment visibility, predictive analytics, and proactive risk mitigation. The rollout marks another step in bringing cutting-edge logistics innovation to the Polish market, driven by the company’s global digital transformation, one of the key centers of which is FedEx Dataworks in Krakow.
What is FedEx Surround®
FedEx Surround® is a monitoring and intervention service that lets customers know where their important shipments are in near real time, get early alerts if weather or other events could cause delays, and—when needed—have FedEx experts step in 24/7 to prioritise, recover, or re-route those shipments to keep them on track. It’s more than a standard tracking solution: it combines an AI-powered dashboard, predictive insights, and priority handling options to help businesses make proactive decisions and keep customers informed.
FedEx Surround® provides Polish companies with a sophisticated solution to protect and optimise their most sensitive and high-value international shipments. The solution enables businesses to anticipate potential disruptions before they occur and to respond quickly through targeted operational interventions.
“FedEx Surround® in Poland demonstrates our commitment to empowering customers with smarter, data-driven logistics solutions,” said Mariusz Mik, vice president of operations, Nordics and Eastern Europe, FedEx. “Near‑real-time monitoring and predictive insights allow businesses to manage risk and maintain supply chain integrity in ways that were hard to accomplish before. This is about more than technology—it’s about giving our customers peace of mind.”
The service is offered in three versions: Select, Preferred, and Premium. Each version provides varying levels of visibility, proactive monitoring, and support tailored to customers’ specific needs. The Select version emphasizes visibility features and reporting, including weather advisories* before and during shipments. In contrast, the Premium version includes additional services such as proactive intervention teams, out-of-network recovery and expediting, and in-network near real-time sensors. The service was launched in Europe in 2024.
FedEx Dataworks in Kraków
FedEx Surround® is fueled by the expertise of FedEx Dataworks, the company’s global analytics and digital innovation engine. Its mission is simple but powerful: to make supply chains smarter for everyone. In practice, this means transforming the movement of millions of packages into real-time intelligence that enables businesses to act sooner, smarter, and with more confidence. By combining deep data signals with predictive technologies, FedEx Dataworks enables faster decisions—both inside FedEx and across supply chains worldwide.
Every working day, the FedEx network moves nearly 17 million shipments, generating an extraordinary 2 petabytes of data. This scale gives FedEx an unmatched vantage point on global commerce and logistics patterns. That intelligence feeds directly into platforms like Atlas Datalake and advanced predictive models that power FedEx Surround®, helping identify risks sooner and guide timely interventions.
A key part of this innovation footprint is in Kraków, one of FedEx Dataworks’ global technology hubs. Here, teams of specialists build data platforms and machine learning models that enable FedEx to connect its physical and digital networks.
“Modern logistics is an intelligent ecosystem that predicts, optimizes, and informs,” said Katarzyna Osuch‑Bukowska, director at FedEx Dataworks. “Our Kraków team helps build the technologies that turn network data into practical, real‑time decisions for customers.”
Established in 2023, FedEx Dataworks Poland has rapidly grown into one of the company’s strategic Big Data centres. Now approaching 100 highly skilled IT professionals, the Kraków hub supports global operations and plays a crucial role in accelerating the digitalization of logistics.
