BUCHAREST, Nov. 25, 2009 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has demonstrated its commitment to Romania with a service enhancement that will enable customers in the growth area Timisoara and Arad to reach key markets in Europe by the next business day. At no extra cost to customers, the new service enhancement will integrate seamlessly into FedEx Express existing service, providing added value to all customers.
Customers in almost 2,330 postcodes will now benefit from next business day delivery to more than 20 European countries, including key markets like Germany, France and the UK. Transit times to Asia will also be reduced by one business day, with shipments to key markets in the region, for example China, India and Vietnam, now arriving in two to three business days, depending on the service country.
Additionally there will be improvements to the inbound service to Romania as a result of enhancements to the FedEx Express network and customs clearance capability in Timisoara. FedEx Express customers shipping to Timisoara will now benefit from savings of up to two business days on transit times to the area. Shipments from the U.S. and key business centers in Asia, such as Hong Kong, Singapore or Shanghai, will arrive within three business days. European shipments from key markets will arrive by the next business day.
“As a growth engine of Romania and a fast growing city in Europe, Timisoara presents a good platform for our customers and our company in Eastern Europe,” said Antje Schuett-Fahrenkrog, regional Vice President, Operations, FedEx Express Central and Eastern Europe and Israel. “FedEx Express is ideally placed to propel the region into new territories and boost connectivity to global markets worldwide,” she added.
FedEx also enhances its service offer for heavy weight shipments between 68kg and 1,000kg. These series of changes serve to strengthen FedEx service offering in one of Eastern Europe’s emerging markets, allowing customers to enjoy improved access for their shipping needs between Romania, the rest of Europe and the world.
